Bacon, Cheddar and Green Onion Scones
When I first saw these scones on Annie’s-Eats, I knew I needed to make them for Cliff. They had all his favorites: bacon, cheese, and green onions. And I knew they would make great quick and easy weekday breakfasts for him. There was no doubt in my mind that he would love them. What’s not to love? I made them almost immediately after seeing this recipe. To my great surprise, he HATED them! He was not just indifferent about them, he really did not like them. Honestly, I was mad that I had just wasted so much time and ingredients on something he would not eat. I don’t even know what it was about them that he did not like. But he would not be taking them for breakfast!
BLT Salad
Salads with plain old iceberg lettuce, carrots, cucumbers and mass-produced dressing are boring. They’re the type of salad we always have at big family feasts and nobody touches. It just sits there idly while the pasta, meat and delicious sides get devoured. When dinner is over, I put plastic wrap over the salad, pop it in the fridge and tell myself I’ll eat it in the next day or two. Inevitably it’s tossed about four days later when it’s either wilted, smelly…or both. Who wants a salad like that?

Tempura Fried Mushrooms
Do you love fried food as much as I do? I don’t know what it is about fried food that I find so irresistible. I mean it’s greasy and unhealthy, so why can’t I leave it alone? No matter how hard I try, I just can’t say no to french fries, fried onion rings, or any other vegetable that can be fried. And don’t even get me started on desserts that are fried. Talk about dangerous! All that I know is that frying makes everything taste better!

Grilled Flank Steak with Soy-Honey Marinade
Growing up I was not a big fan of steak. My parents usually bought filet mignon, and I always asked them to make mine well done. Not only did I want it well done, but I ate it with ketchup too! In those days I ate almost everything with ketchup. Steak, chicken, fish, I ate it all with ketchup. As I got older I phased out the ketchup and started using steak sauce instead. I can now honestly say that I eat my steak without the aid of ketchup and steak sauce though.

Vanilla Crème Brûlée with Raspberries
Back in 8th grade I went to London with Kara and my mom. We did all the tourist things: theater, tube, Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, Harrod’s, etc. You name it…we did it. I think my favorite part of the trip was Harrod’s. What can I say, I loved to shop then and I love to shop now! However my most distinct memory of Harrod’s was not the expensive, luxurious apparel, it was the food court.
