We got up early Monday morning and took the train from Washington D.C. to New York’s Penn Station. It was only about 3.5 hours and it is nice because it takes you straight into the city. We went straight to the hotel to check in. After we checked out our room we also went up to check out the roof top bar and take a few pictures.
About a month ago we got a new toy for our stand mixer–an ice cream maker attachment! It’s been a lot of fun watching liquid magically whirl itself into a thick, refreshing treat. We’ve already used it twice, first for our yummy Lemon Gelato and most recently for Salted Caramel Ice Cream. I. Love. Caramel.
These granola bars are my absolute favorite. They’re actually the only homemade granola bar I remember ever trying, but let me assure you they are the best out there. Kara has been making them for awhile now and she’s always nice enough to save a few for me. Then I go ahead and scarf them all down in one sitting. The result is a trail of crumbs leading from the kitchen counter to me on the couch with my mouth full. I may have just eaten 4 granola bars in 2 minutes flat, but it was worth it.
Potatoes are definitely in my top 5 foods. Maybe top 3. Somewhere in between nutella and deep dish pizza. I don’t know why I love potatoes so much. I think it might be because my mom hates potatoes so she seldom made them for us growing up. Unfortunately, my favorite potato preparation, french fries, are not exactly healthy. Why are the foods that taste the best always the most unhealthy? Why can’t my favorite food be plain, steamed broccoli? Or plain grilled chicken breast. Yuck!
I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but I’m really not much of a meat girl. Rather than steaks and burgers and such, I prefer foods of the sweet variety and carb heavy foods like pasta and bread. Do you feel the same way? What can I say…chocolate and spaghetti are so much more satisfying!
