I grew up in an Italian family. As Italians, we express our love through food. You will never come to one of our houses and leave hungry. Seriously, it has never happened. Growing up, it was normal to me to have big Sunday dinners with my extended family. There was always some kind of macaroni on the menu. And meatballs. And sausage. And neckbones. And garlic bread. And I could go on and on. This was my “normal.” It was a time for our family to spend time together over a nice meal. Cream of Broccoli Gorgonzola Soup
Cliff, Kelly, and I are big lovers of broccoli. Much like brussel sprouts I think that broccoli has a bad reputation. Parents will often say: you can eat that cookie if you eat your broccoli. But, why not cook broccoli in a way that people actually want to eat it. We love roasted broccoli with a little olive oil and garlic. When I cook it for Cliff and I made a ton of it. And we eat every last bite. It seriously tastes good! Like we get excited to eat it. Weird, right?
Italian Style Beef Stew
9. What does that number signify? The number of pounds I have lost this year? I wish. The number of Manolo’s in my closet? Nope. The number of pieces of chocolate cake I have eaten today? Close, but not quite. No, 9 is the high today. As in degrees. The high. Fahrenheit. 9!! Seriously, if it weren’t for the pizza and hot dogs I would NOT be living in Chicago! In fact I may just be ordering myself some Lou Malnati’s pizza tonight. I’ll have it delivered. Thank. You. Very. Much.
Chicken Pot Pie Soup
We’ve considered making Chicken Pot Pie several times throughout our LLP career but it just never happened because once we started reading recipes they always seemed…so completely unhealthy. I know…that’s an absurd thing to say when we’ve posted this. and this. and this. But I can always justify desserts no matter how bad (but good!) they are. I’m not a rational person. For reasons I really can’t explain it seemed wrong to douse fresh veggies and chicken in butter and cream.
