Not just a food blog.
As I mentioned earlier Cliff and I took a quick weekend trip to St. Louis recently. Neither of us had ever been and it is only about 4 hours from our house so we decided to go for it. We were only there for 3 nights but we packed tons of fun into our trip!
Thanks to Kara’s Sorrento–Capri–Amalfi Coast Guidebook we had all the details on the best sights to be seen right at our fingertips. Because the weather was so beautiful during the days we decided to go on an adventure and try to walk to Pantano. The guide book tells you the level of difficulty and I’m pretty sure it said this one was easy. Well not for us!
Last weekend Cliff, Kelly and I headed to the christkindlmarket in Chicago. It used to be a tradition to visit the market on Christmas Eve but this year we decided to head to the market a little early. The good news is nothing was sold out. When we went on Christmas Eve they were usually out of the little souvenir “boot” mugs or the little booths were starting to close down. This year everything was open and available. The bad news is it was very busy! We could barely get around and look at the booths.
We have been back from our trip for a little over two weeks now but it feels like forever. I miss Italy. If I could live anywhere in the world I think I would choose Italy. In fact, I hope to live there someday, even if just for a few years. All the people we met were super nice, the climate is much better than Chicago, it is beautiful, and obviously the food! While we were there I felt like we were eating soooo much food. Pizza and pasta everyday! But it was ok because 1) we were on vacation and 2) we were walking and climbing about a million stairs every day. Every night I would look to see what the locals were eating. One night the people next to us had a basket of bread on their table when we arrived, they were sharing this pizza type thing, then they each got a large plate with meats and some fish thing, then they each got a full portion of pasta. And they ate it all! And to top if off they shared a piece of cake. We each ordered a pasta dish and it was more than enough for us. I don’t know how they do it, but I’d like to learn. And they were skinny too! What the heck?
As Kelly wrote about last week, we all took a trip to Vegas to attend a wedding a couple of weeks ago. After the wedding Cliff and I moved to a hotel on the strip, The Vdara, to spend a few days with Cliff’s Dad and Stepmom from Arizona. For the first time I used Priceline to bid on a hotel for Vegas. You give them parameters and then you bid “blindly.” Kind of scary, but it turned out really well for us. We really enjoyed The Vdara.
